about

On March 19th, 2017 our son passed away. Little Bear was just too ambitious. It was night time in the hospital, so when the Sun finally rose I lifted the curtains and let some light come in. It landed right on him. We took home the blanket they had wrapped him in. It had colorful footprints all over it. We took it with us as we drove up the coast. We wanted to lay flowers in places he would have enjoyed. We put them by trees and in streams washing to the ocean and along the road in cabbage fields. At one stop, CaLisa told him to go dance with the spirits, so I wrote this song about it.

lyrics

Our boy died on his birthday
Never saw the Sun
Lift up the curtains
To shine a light on our son

Squeeze me when your heart hurts
You know you did nothing wrong
Take me up the coast
Lay flowers where he belonged

He's dancing with the spirits now
We feel him in the wind
He's dancing with the spirits now
In all the places we've been

Our wild, wild winter boy
He taught us so much
Footprints on a blanket
To keep your spirit with us

He's dancing with the spirits now
We hear him call from the tree
He's dancing with the spirits now
His flowers float out to sea

He's dancing with the spirits now
Up in the constellations
He's dancing with the spirits now
So shine a light on our son

Shine a light on our son
He will come back to us
